Therapeutic shamanism is a powerful blend of psychotherapy and ancient shamanic practice.
As well as the Person-Centred approach, this therapy uses other Humanistic approaches such as Gestalt and Hakomi. We also use less verbal approaches such as neo-Reichian and other body-centred/somatic therapies, breathwork, and art psychotherapy. Other psychotherapeutic techniques include eye-movement therapies like EMDR and IEMT, Jung and Depth Psychology and therapies that work with parts of self such as Voice Dialogue and Internal Family Systems Therapy. In addition to this, we also do Constellation Work, Process-Orientated Psychotherapy and Ecopsychotherapy.
Modern culture is based on a power dynamic that is hierarchical or a power over/powerless model. Healthy cultures are based on power from within. When someone comes from a place of power from within, they won’t willingly let people have power over them and will not hand their power away. They also have no wish to have power over anyone else. Rather, they seek to help others find their own power from within.
This is both very humanistic, and very hunter-gatherer.
It is also very healthy, and it is at the heart of the Therapeutic Shamanic approach.
